Well, they did it! £4,000 was raised for The Principle Trust Children’s Charity, smashing their initial £3,000 fundraising target.

On 9 October 2025, a team from Dacre, Son & Hartley, joined by colleagues from Simply Conveyancing, Mortgage Advice Bureau, and Kempston Parkes Surveyors, set off on a 16-mile trek from Bingley’s Five Rise Locks to Granary Wharf in Leeds, following the scenic Leeds–Liverpool Canal.
But while the walkers took on their challenge, Paul Wilson, Dacre Son & Hartley’s Wharfedale Area Director and Ilkley resident, decided to push things even further — cycling the entire 127-mile length of the Leeds–Liverpool Canal in a single day.

He completed the route in an incredible 9 hours 21 minutes of ride time (10 hours 11 total) reaching Leeds five miles ahead of the walkers. 🚴♂️👏
Paul said: “Apart from getting lost a couple of times and one pretty big crash, it all went really well. It was a fantastic experience and brilliant to meet the team at the finish line knowing we’d all played our part in helping such a worthwhile cause.”
The Dacres team had initially set out to raise £3,000, enough to fund five full family holidays. But after hitting their target before the trek began, they decided to increase their goal to £3,600 – and went on to surpass it, raising a total of £4,000.

Rebecca Reeves, Dacre, Son & Hartley’s HR Director and one of the walkers commented: “The work of The Principle Trust is truly inspirational, and we’re proud to support them. For many, these holidays are more than just a break – they are a lifeline. The opportunity to spend quality time together away from daily struggles helps families heal, recharge, and create positive memories that last a lifetime. The trek was incredibly challenging, but it’s nothing compared to the challenges these children and their families face every day, and we are so proud to have raised £4,000. All donations, no matter the size, help The Principle Trust reach more families in need and bring hope where it’s needed most.”
