One of Otley’s finest apartments, which is part of a substantial and important Victorian property overlooking the Wharfe Valley, is now for sale.
Flat 2, Chevin Hall, on West Chevin Road, is being offered for sale through the Otley office of Dacre, Son & Hartley and extends to more than 2,000 sq ft across the upper two floors of the historic building.
One of eight residences created within the former country house, the five-bedroom apartment occupies the second and third floors and retains access through a communal reception hall serving three homes. The property includes a 45ft central hallway, a family dining kitchen with granite work surfaces and hand-painted units, and a front-facing sitting room with a wood-burning stove and large picture window framing panoramic views across the valley.

There are two bedrooms on the principal level, including one with en-suite facilities, alongside a house bathroom with underfloor heating. A further three bedrooms and a modern shower room are arranged on the upper floor. The apartment also benefits from gas central heating and double glazing.
Externally, the property has two allocated parking spaces and a recently renovated detached double garage with light and power. Communal gardens surround the hall and extend to the edge of Chevin Forest Park, with expansive lawns, mature planting and a greenhouse. The building is approached by a tree-lined driveway from West Chevin Road.

Tim Usherwood, director at Dacre, Son & Hartley’s Otley office, said: “Apartments of this scale and character rarely come to the open market in Otley, particularly in a landmark building such as Chevin Hall. The combination of its quality and size, wonderful grounds and spellbinding views with direct access to surrounding countryside, plus its proximity to Otley, Guiseley and Menston station makes it a distinctive proposition.”
Chevin Hall was constructed in the 1870s by local developer Thomas Forrest Marshall and his architect son Alfred. Originally conceived as a substantial private residence and at one stage described locally as a potential sanatorium, it later accommodated a succession of boarding and preparatory schools before being acquired in the early 20th century by the North Western Co-operative Convalescent Home Association. It subsequently operated as a holiday and convalescent home, later becoming a private nursing home, before conversion into individual apartments in the late 20th century.
The property is situated on the south-westerly fringe of Otley, within reach of the town centre, Menston railway station and Leeds Bradford Airport and is for sale for offers over £595,000.
